Positive Feedback from Work Experience

Over the last few months we have had a number of work experience students come through the GMFC offices as part of there school or college programmes.

GMFC offer students a varied experience, allowing students to gain a greater understanding of how the organisation works behind the scenes as well as experiencing the variety of sessions put on in the community and with Bedhead Football Club.

Each will go through our GMFC work experience pack where they record there week and are able to keep a log of their week. At the end of the week students receive a certificate of leverage to add to their CV.

Last week we had Faith Fatai-Dere and Samir Adam from Skinners Academy in East London who showed fantastic application and commitment throughout the week.

Pre-Pre Season development programme up and running

Following on from our first 2 friendlies for the Winstanley boys we have now officially started our Pre-Pre Season programme getting the boys ready for the next season hopefully in mens football and a reasonable and organised level.

The session is welcome to those of all abilities who want to progress their football further alongside exploring other options that may be available through GMFC and also our other local partners such as Work Match, Enable and Bedhead Football Club.

The programme will take place every Monday from 6pm till 7.30pm in Falcon Park, Off Este Road, under the train arches by Sacred Heart Primary School.

The programme will consist of football related fitness in a pre-season style format, working through building up a base level of fitness then progressing into sport specific fitness with SAQ circuits, high intensity small sided games.

BHFC Vs. Hero for Children

Our annual charity friendly Vs. Hero for Children Thailand and the Thai embassy. It is a great honur to host this event each year and is always celebrated in superb fashion by the football on display.

This year saw the Hero for Children team come out triumphant against our Under 11’s in a highly competitive but enjoyable game. The final score on the day was 3-1 with some absolutely outstanding goals.

The Hero for Children charity strive to give opportunities to children from the poorest parts of Thailand where it is not uncommon for their families to have been effected by horrific violence and poverty.

At Bedhead and GMFC we are immensely proud to have strong ties to both the Charity and the Embassy and long may it continue.

All GMFC friendly with Our Winstanley development group facing the Michail Antonio Football Centre

Friday the 8th May GMFC brought together all aspects of our great charity with the Michail Antonio Football Centre and The Winstanley project to play a friendly match at the home of football in South London at Selhurst Sports Arena.

With both teams vying for bragging rights, the game was highly competitive with both teams fighting for every ball.

As the game progressed The Winstanley boys started to dominate the centre of the pitch exploiting gaps and went 2 goals up. The MAFC boys got a goal back before half time through some individual skill on the edge of the box as the game got stretched.

Half time started with the Winstanley boys really putting the pressure on and breaking well from interceptions and misplaced passes and raced to 5 – 1 up within 15 mins of the 2nd half.

As the legs started to tire the game opened up with both teams adding another 2 to the score bored and the game finished 7 – 3 to Winstanley!

Overall the game was a fantastic showcase for the positive work GMFC does across the board and the positive relationships we encourage with our young people.

First game for GMFC Winstanley Vs Crystal Palace

Last month our boys from the Get Active Winstanley had, what we hope to be, the first of many games for the side made up of boys from our session in the Winstanley area who attend our Wednesday session every week.

The session is open to all abilities and is in partnership with Get Active Wandsworth as part of the Witness Da Fitness scheme which aims to increase participation and sport of young people between 14 and 25 in the SW11 postcode.

Our first game for the project saw us against a Strong Crystal Palace side at the Archbishop Lanfranc school in Croydon. The game saw the boys start nervously as this was the first time that the majority had played together competitively. As they eased into the game some terrific football was played and we started to dominate the game and would have taken the lead had it not been for the exceptional Crystal Palace goalkeeper.

Palace started the second half with an early goal through a mistake from our Gk and got a second soon after with a shot from distance. The goals came slightly against the run of play but the attitude from the boys was exceptional and we created chance after chance and were it not for the excellant Palace GK. The game ended 2-1 with Owen scoring a fantastic penalty.

Overall a great game played in great spirit! on to the next one.
