Great turnout for Positive Lifestyles Tournament!

Last Wednesday the Positive lifestyles tournament was held at the newly laid 3G on Doddington estate pitch, and what a way to celebrate the opening with some fantastic football on show and great deal of community spirit with boys from all over the borough and beyond coming and engaging in this great day.IMG_2219

For the group stages we split the pitch in half marked out by cones and banners, enabling two games to go on simultaneously. Group A games played on one pitch and Group B games on the other.

Group games were intense!
Group games were intense!

After the group stages we had a break of roughly 15 minutes in which the boys who wanted to go and pray were able to do so in the Storm community center and the others were able to have free time in which to have a kick around or run to the shops if they wanted to do so.

The top 2 teams from each group were entered into the main draw for the Competition and the bottom two teams were entered into the plate competition.

Both the plate and main competition semi-finals went well and the winning teams progressed into the final.

For the finals we marked out a pitch in the center of the pen allowing for all participants that did not make It to the final to watch inside the pen and to create a buzz for the finalists.

The finals went down well with Win FC winning the plate competition and Fenwick FC winning the main competition.

Michail gets on the scoresheet AGAIN against Liverpool as West Ham progress to the next round of the FA Cup

Last night West Ham secured their spot in the 5th round of the FA Cup and our man Michail was the one to get West Ham in to the lead on the stroke of half-time with a superb first time volley precisely placed into the top left hand corner!!

Liverpool came back early into the second half through Phillipe Coutinho which has to be said was against the run of play, however it was a terrific free kick.

Both teams fought tooth and nail for the second but neither side could get a break and the game was still tied after 90 mins taking it into extra time!

Extra time was played at a ferocious pace with West Ham and Liverpool taking it in turn to attack with the game looking more like a basketball game at times.Unknown

In the last minute of extra time West Ham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Payet’s excellent delivery found Ogbonna crashing in at the back post to make the score 2-1.

The game ended 2-1 placing West Ham into the next round of the cup!

Well done Michail and all at West Ham FC!

Ladies Triumph in the London FA Southwark 5-a-side

Last Sunday the Ladies had an early start to get down to the London FA’s 5-a-side tournament where we were one of twelve teams looking to walk away with the silver wear.
The tournament was the first time the ladies have been together since before christmas and they showed great team spirit to get the wins despite the rust that occurs when out of action for so long!
The girls came into their own the more games they played and by the end of the groups stages looked to be real contenders finishing undefeated.
The quarters saw us up against Clapham Futsal and we struck an early lead and then built on it going 4-0 up very quickly. Clapham managed to get a consolation goal.
Semi-finals was another tough game against London Bari, however the confidence we had built up in the earlier rounds shone through with us winning 4-0 comfortably.
On to the final for the girls and Clapham United who play 2 divisions higher in the Greater London Womans Football League, so was a huge test for our girls!
The game was very tight with both teams have some great chances with some lovely football that was being played.
The game ended 4-3 with the girls made to work hard for every goal and Clapham scoring some fantastic goals themselves!

Overall it was a fantastic day of football with some exhilarating performances from our girls and silky skills all over the pitch. Hopefully this silver wear will be the first of many!!

Last Minute Loss Hard To Take For The Academy Side

Another great weekend at the Hyde League with The GMFC Academy fielding a very different looking squad then the previous match with the aim to give opportunities to as many of the boys on our books as possible!

The new look side started with a greater tempo than we had done the previous week with the ball moving well down the flanks and Keyshawn in particular working hard up top.

Nigel James academy also showed a good ability to run at players with some good individual players looking to get at our back line one v one.

Going into the second half the tempo slowed and still neither side took control of the game with a high turnover of the ball in the centre of the pitch and nobody able to find that decisive penetrating pass.

The game looked as if it was destined to be a bore draw however with seconds remaining the referee award a penalty against our boys which was effortlessly dispatched into the back of the net with what was to be the last kick of the game.
