GMFC Academy off to a terrific start in the Hyde League

After an exciting build up with the presentation and opening ceremony we have been raring to get started with our first fixture this weekend.

The pre-match preperation began nice and early with the squad meeting up in the GMFC offices to get suited and booted in the new GMFC blazers.

From the offices the squad made the journey from South-West London to North-West London.

The Management team of Kyrie and Errol briefed the boys with tactics and instructions on how to take the game to our opposition.IMG_1705_resized

The game started with both teams playing the ball in the tika-tika style made famous by Barcelona which was very easy on the eye however both sides lacked any real penetration.

Mid-way through the half we conceded due to lack of concentration and were punished with some clinical finishing. We managed to equalise just before half-time with a top class from Matheus from well outside the box.

At the start of the second half changes were made which settled the team and we started to play the ball with a greater purpose than before and asserted our style on the game which paid off when, with 10 minutes to go we secured the win with a great goal from Brian who had been a big threat since coming on at half time.

The game ended 2-1 and was a fantastic way to cap off our start to the Hyde League.

The squad on the day was:

  1. Vlad (GK)
  2. Rai (C)
  3. Khalid
  4. Ezra
  5. Stephan
  6. Matheus
  7. Seyoum
  8. Patrick M
  9. Keyshaun
  10. Iffy
  11. Sam
  12. Brian
  13. Maxwell
  14. Stelio

Hyde League opening great success!

The Hyde League announced itself on the footballing map with a bang this weekend with all the founder member teams attending suited and booted in their new kit ready for their first fixtures coming thick and fast over the next few week.

The GMFC Academy boys represented the charity extremely well turning up in shirt and tie and then showing off our new kit for the season.

The opening fixture for the league was the U16’s QPR Foundation Vs. Crystal Palace Academy.

The game started off with both teams looking nervous playing in front of a large expectant crowd. The second half produced a lot more quality and both teams showed sparks of real quality. The game ended as a 2 – 2 draw, which was, on balance, a fair result.

More news to come!
