Under 16’s back in action with a Win

The Under 16’s were raring to go this weekend after having a fixture break over the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately the game had to be played as a friendly but none the less we played with purpose and vigour as if it was the FA Cup final.

We controlled the game from start to finish with some fantastic football being played through the thirds.

Our goals came from Charlie, Rron and Ali.

Great win boys! Well Done!

GMFC Cobham record another win and clean sheet in friendly with Croydon

This Wednesday GMFC Cobham recorded our 3rd win in the last 4 matches. The friendly was originally scheduled as a league fixture but due to issues with the referees after a last minute fitness test we were not able to play the competitive league game because of not enough match officials.

However this did not deter either side and we agreed to play the fixture as a friendly.

The game was played in great spirit with some terrific football on show and without the pressure of a competitive match.

We controlled the game well and created some good chances but it was not until the 2nd half that we opened our account with a good finish from Seyoum who scored for the 4th game in a row.

Florin added the second to close off the game with a cheeky finish.

GMFC Cobham 4 – 2 Chessington and Hook FC to keep climbing the table!

GMFC Cobham recorded our 4th win in row with a emphatic 4 – 2 win over Chessington and Hook FC.

The boys raced in to an early 3 – 1 lead lead by half time with Seyoum netting 2 and Harry Cobb with 1.

The second half got tight when Chessington and Hook added their 2nd to shorten the lead making the final stages a tense affair, however the boys stood strong and Ashley Waine secured the 3 points with a fine finish in the closing stages.

GMFC Cobham are next in action against Croydon FC in the league.

Charity Ambassador Michail Antonio comes down to give the boys on Patmore a surprise visit!

On Monday the boys from our Positive Lifestyles session on the Patmore estate were treated to a fantastic surprise when GMFC ambassador and West Ham United FC player Michail Antonio came down to meet all of the boys.IMG_0308

You could see the surprise and excitement on all of the boys faces and the questions came thick and fast about Michail’s career particularly about how he progressed from non-league all the way to the pinnacle of football in the Premier League.

We would like to say a big thank you to Michail for taking his time to come down and meet the boys and we look forward to the next time.IMG_0310

GMFC maintain good home form to beat Croydon in the league!

There was a buzz of anticipation at the Leg ‘O Mutton last Saturday as the home fixture with Croydon FC gave us a chance to exert revenge for the narrow 5 – 4 defeat in Pre-season.

The game started at a good pace with the ball being stroked across the park on the slick surface. It was not long before Croydon took the lead with a great finish past Vlad who was left helpless in goal.

The goal gave our boys the jolt they need to spark some life in to the performance and the persistence paid off with Seyoum breaking through the Croydon defence with a piece of individual brilliance and finished with ease.

Both teams continued at a ferocious pace and this time we took the lead again from Seyoum with another moment of magic and again found the back of the net with a venomous finish. We continued with great pressure and some good passing play through the thirds of the pitch. However the game evened out and Croydon also found some gaps to play in themselves and levelled the game before half-time.

The half ended 2 – 2 with both teams having an even share of the game so far.

The second half began with the boys showing greater purpose in possession and defensively a lot tighter and Croydon were having a lot less joy.
We progressed well and had some close chances but nothing came of it!
Our break came when Seyoum again got himself in the mix and shimmied his marker leaving his opposite number no other option but to take him down resulting in a free-kick in a promising position on the edge of the box. The ball was then whipped in and Harry Cobb connected with a booming header.

The game ended 3 – 2 to us and it was an absolutely fantastic team performance. Well done boys!

GMFC and Positive Lifestyles Celebrate Black History Month with trip to Liverpool

A team that eats together stays together ! Great food from Liverpools number 1 Caribbean takeaway Ragga's!

The month of October in the UK represents Black History Month. Black History Month is an international annually celebrated month where we remember important people and events that have helped to shape our society today.

Looking out over the docks, taking in the scenery.

To celebrate this, in conjunction with Wandsworth Borough, we took a group of boys from our FREE Positive lifestyles football sessions run in estates across Battersea and Clapham Junction to Liverpool to take in the history and culture the City has to offer.

James instructing the group before the game
The Liverpool trip took us to the International Slavery Museum, The Maritime Museum, A match against Liverpool FC’s Foundation, a tour of the city and Anfield stadium and to cap it all off we got to see Liverpool Vs Bournemouth live at Anfield!

Over all it was a great trip where the young people we chose really learned a lot and came back with some fantastic memories which will stick with them for many years to come.

Great community spirit and positivity shown in this picture with two groups of boys from completely different parts of the country integrating over.

Under 16’s triumphant in victory over Sporting Duet!!

Our Goal Getter Under 16’s maintained their winning ways with a tough 2 – 3 victory of over Sporting Duet this weekend.

Sporting Duet has always been a tough place to go and play with very skilled players particularly going forward. The boys had to be fully focused throughout to earn the victory especially in the closing stages of the game where the game became very tetchy but the boys were really solid at the back and the work rate all over the park was phenomenal in order to secure the win.

Goals came from Joel, Rron and Charlie (Debatable wether an OG or not however)

The pick of the bunch though was Rron’s with a delightful chip over the goalkeeper who was caught in no mans land!

Overall fantastic display from the boys and hopefully they can maintain the winning run they are currently on.
