GMFC Cobham triumph over top of the league!

Tuesday night saw GMFC Cobham pull off an absolutely fantastic upset against league front runners Cray Valley Reserves.

GMFC took the initiative from the start and continued the good football they have been starting to play over the last few games.

Our domination from the midfield spread throughout the team and good spells of possession created some close chances.

Eventually our pressure paid off with Martin Wayhill netting our first of the evening. Our goal seemed to awake the league leaders who came at us with a lot more urgency and purpose. Through sheer persistence Cray Valley came back with a goal of their own to equalise.

This took us into half time with both sides level.

The second half started with GMFC looking reinvigorated after a passionate half time team talk, from management team Errol Bignall and Kyrie Donnelly. The on rush from the GMFC front line was proving to much for the Cray Valley defence and it was not long before we broke through the lines with a cracking finish from Harry Cobb.

Cray Valley made an attempt to get back into the game but the backline marshalled by Vlad in goal.

After with standing the pressure we got back to basics and managed to thread the ball through to Kieron who scored with a booming finish into the back of the net to secure the win.

Well done boys fantastic result!

Just the girls in action this week down at GMFC!

This week saw both our Under 15’s and 16’s games called off and no match for GMFC Cobham which meant that our Ladies side were the only GMFC representatives in action this weekend when they took on Putney Vale FC.

The girls put out a very strong 11 and played some excellent football in the early stages of the game against the tough tackling Putney Vale.

Despite the dominance and numerous goal mouth scrambles Putney kept managing to just about clear the ball away from the goal line, then against the run of play we were caught on the break with the Putney Vale striker finishing clinically.

The half finished 0-1 to the visitors.

The second half followed suit with our girls really taking the initiative and playing some lovely passing football around Putney.

10 mins into the half we managed to get our goal with Hannah being taken down on the edge of the area with a cynical challenge from their centre half. She then stepped up to take a fantastic free kick which could only be parried into the path of Bedhead ladies debutant Clare who made no mistake about her finish.

As the game continued the ladies pushed and pushed for the win but to no avail. Again the ball broke down from the edge of the Putney box and they broke quickly getting the ball into the wide area for the ball to get swiftly whipped into the box and the Putney striker nipped in and poked the ball in the back of the net in what was one of the last few kicks of the game!

The game ended 1-2 which did not do our girls justice as they not only fought hard but also played some fantastic football and kept knocking on the door till the last kick.IMG_2081-2

GMFC weekly round up.

A quick round up of this weekends result at GMFC.

This week saw our Under 15’s take on a Wandsworth Town who have been at the top of the age group for the last few seasons and despite a tight first half, due to injuries were blown away by the athleticism of Wandsworth who were slightly bigger and stronger across the field.

The Ladies who have been struggling with Injuries and suspensions of late were unlucky to lose to an experienced South London Ladies side. Although South London won by a clear result to put this in to perspective our ladies played with 7 players in our whole squad compared to the 16 South London had to roll on roll off. So hats off to the ladies who did not give up right up to the final whistle.

A special mention however has to go to our Under 16’s who after a difficult first few weeks of the season secured their first win with an emphatic 8-1 win over Broomwood Barbarians at Home this weekend. With some fantastic goals including 3 from Joel scoring his first hat-trick of the season. Other goals came from Lassine, Charlie, Rhys and not to mention an absolutely spectacular free kick from Ali from just inside the half. Well done boys!

Former GMFC player Patrick Motindo making waves in the Mediterranean!

Former GMFC player Patrick Motindo has been making a name for himself recently after this move to Gibraltar to play for Europa Point FC.

Last week Patrick came off the bench and completely changed the game with two assists, earning a win for his side against a strong Olympique FC team.

Pat’s performance earned him rave reviews in the local press. We re definitely looking forward to following Pat’s footballing journey!
