A Round Up From This Weekends Fixtures At GMFC

This weekends fixtures at GMFC were much improved this weekend with both our Ladies team and our under 15’s recording very good wins in what were tricky games against tough opposition.

Our Ladies won 2-0 against a tough tackling and physical Old Actonians team. This would have been a good result on its own, however it was not as simple as that as we ended up with only 9 women on the pitch for majority of the game due to Injuries and a sending off the girls soldiered through the game and scored 2 cracking goals plus kept an even more impressive clean sheet. Well Done girlsIMG_2081-2

Our Under 15’s had a great turn around of result with an emphatic 7-2 home win against Peckham Town in what was a very aggressive and heated match. The boys showed great restraint and discipline in both the way they played on the pitch and controlling their own behaviour which takes a lot of maturity at such a young age.

In our other games over the weekend the results did not go our way with the Under 16’s losing in a tightly contested game 3-5 to London Dragons. The boys were very unlucky to not get at least a draw out of the game as they went into half time 2 goals up. Unfortunately the other team had a lot larger squad and used this to their advantage in the second half in order to save their energy.

In the final fixture of the weekend Our GMFC Cobham boys lost in another close game away at Raynes Park Vale in the Cup. Unfortunately this game marked the end of our run in this cup with the boys losing to 2 cheap goals in a game that can at best be described as dull.Unknown

Overall though not a bad weekend at GMFC and lots of continual progression on show from all teams!

Ladies suffer narrow first defeat at the hands of South London in a heated encounter at Barn Elms

Last Sunday Bedhead Ladies fell to their first defeat of the season to an experienced South London Ladies side.

The 2-1 score does not even begin to tell the story of a game in which the Bedhead Ladies dominated throughout but just could not find the back of the net. The girls took the lead early in the second half through Billie with a typical strikers finish. After the first goal it looked like we were going to add another couple however this was not to be.

South London Ladies managed to hold out on throughout the onslaught that followed and managed to have their own spell of pressure. In this spell we held out until two moments where the concentration slipped and South London took their opportunity to come back into the game with 2 clinical finishes to give them the lead.IMG_2192

The girls however got back on top and tested the opposition goalkeeper from all angles. We  kept persisting and Billie again causing the opposition defence problems got taken down in the box in the last minute. The responsibility fell to Liz to level the scores!

It was not to be however and Liz hit the ball straight at the static keeper.

Despite the result this was a game in which the Ladies fully dominated a very experienced South London side who have been very consistent in the league for many years, and with only 10 women!

Disappointing opening week of the season for our Goal Getter boys

Our Under 15 and 16 sides from the Goal Getter project kicked off their seasons this weekend both at home to Lambeth tigers and Broomwood respectively.

Unfortunately it was not the results we would have hoped for with both sides fielding new look squads.

Despite the loses both sides showed lots of promise and potential to develop as the season progresses which we look forward to seeing.

Ladies maintain winning start to the season.

Tre Bogle and Sanchia Duncan’s team kept up their winning run with another fantastic win to make it 3 out of 3 against a strong London Phoenix side who have been widely tipped to bounce back up after relegation from the division above.

Our girls showed great character to take the initiative and dominate the game from the start with our midfield running the show and feeding the ball through for Mali up top and Hannah pushing on through the through the middle.

It was not long before we accumulated a 1 – 0 which was built on with a swift 2nd and 3rd goal putting us 3 – 0 up.

We carried on dominating the game and were unlucky not to add more to the tally however it was not to be and we conceded a penalty late on for London Phoenix to score a consolation goal with.

Our goals were scored by Midfield general Sam, new signing Hannah and last seasons returning top goal scorer Mali.

Great result girls and may the run long continue!

Development group show promise in narrow first defeat.

Last Friday our GMFC Cobham development group had there first showcase match against a strong West End FC side.

The game was very tight with a tough midfield battle right from the start. Both sides had good spells of possession but found it difficult to create any real clear cut chances.

Eventually however West End broke our lines and proved to be clinical in front of goal with 3 goals one after the other.

We managed to regain some composure after this and played some very good football through the thirds but just couldn’t hit the target and unfortunately despite the effort from the boys we just couldn’t come back into the game.

Overall it was a tight game with some real positives in terms of the groups overall development and then some particularly notable performances from Hussain and Mitch.

Ladies team record 3-0 win in first win of the season!

A great first game of the new season in the cup for Sanchia’s Bedhead Ladies team with a 3-0 win over Leyton Orient’s Development side.

Sundays game was the first game for new coach Tre Bogle and what a game to kick off his reign!

The girls started the game very well and applied lots of pressure to the visitors but initially could not find that killer instinct in front of goal.

Half-time came with the scores 0-0 and this resulted in a quick reshuffle of the team to try and get that elusive goal.

Shortly after the re-start we managed to find the goal we needed to keep the tempo going.
we continued to press and eventually the goals flooded in with the girls adding a 2nd and 3rd very quickly.

The final score ended 3-0 and it was a great spirited performance from the girls and new coach Tre.

Goals came from Alice, Mel and Sam.

GMFC Cobham record first win in 3-0 triumph over Crowborough

Another very proud moment for everyone involved with The Guy Mascolo Football Charity and Cobham FC this Saturday with our Reserve side recording their first 3 points of the season.

The side featured two boys from our Positive Lifestyles sessions, two boys from our Friday development group at Selhurst as well as one of our very own coaches Hasib Saeed bossing the midfield.

After a tight first half where we showed great intent but were not able to convert the chances we came out the blocks flying and got our eye in with two goals from Michael Tia and one goal from Ashley Waine.
